Why is my font so important?

How can something so small, be such a big discussion point? A font does everything from representing the brand, to increasing legibility. This is the first time since the iPhone original launch that we have seen Apple use two different fonts for its devices. Named, simply, ‘San Francisco’: The new font is sleeker, clear, easy to read and is displayed across all of the devices in a subtle manner. It is specifically designed to be easier to read on smaller devices – i.e, the Apple watch.

Marketing Week Live

Last month Chris Billingham (Communications Manager) and Jerrell Chaney (Social Media Assistant) went to London for Marketing Week Live. It was a great opportunity for MAXX to see what was out there in the Marketing world and what we could apply to our own and our client’s marketing strategies. Marketing Week Live is held at Olympia Central in London. Situated just outside Kensington tube station, we were relieved that the journey to the venue was a short walk given the amount of walking around we would do inside!

With over 10 years of online growth, the question: ‘Is social media just a fad?’ Is still a topic of conversation within the world of business. With Linkedin and MySpace being founded in 2003, followed swiftly by other giants such as Facebook and eventually Twitter, many businesses still question whether social media is a fleeting craze – or really useful at all. The truth is every colour has its own meaning and every colour will create different reactions from individuals and organisations. MAXX talks apprenticeships

In the 2012/2013 academic year, 510,000 people started apprenticeships in the UK.   One of these 510,000 people was Alice, our very own apprentice. Now, in 2014, we can no longer call Alice an apprentice as she has evolved into our marketing assistant! Alice has been with us for over 18 months now and after starting as a business and administration apprentice, has developed into a role within our marketing department.

As technology continues to grow and the editing of images becomes easier, designs of websites or other marketing materials have become focused on images. What many are forgetting is that the text on a design is part of the visuals, the simple decision of what font to use for your copy can make a huge difference to how the finished product looks. We need to go back to fonts and take a look at how important they can be.

What exactly is a Hashtag? #Hashtagquestions

Last year ‘Market Probe International’ conducted a survey, which showed that 85% of followers feel more connected with small businesses after following them on Twitter.   One word that comes up in every training session and meeting that we hold with clients regarding Twitter is ‘Hashtags’. Whether it’s questioning how to use them effectively or pondering what they are, one thing is for sure – the symbol # has a brand new 21st century meaning.   Hashtags are essentially a word or phrase prefixed with # - the hash symbol.
