Hosting: Easy as 123?
Tech gurus aside, the majority of people have never given a thought to how their website, prime business real-estate, is run, or who looks after and hosts it for that matter.
Chances are this changed sometime around Monday afternoon, when major news outlets were reporting that hosting provider 123-reg had deleted “an unspecified number” of the 1.7 million sites it hosts in the UK. Cue everybody ringing the tech-team and checking their website with bated breath.
In an age where we spend hours of our day online and businesses transact through purely online models, this is a pretty big deal, astronomical in fact. What would the cost of no website be to your company? A quick search on Twitter will find many 123-Reg customers sending apoplectic messages as they struggle to salvage their businesses.
With website performance and uptime generally being exemplary, it’s quite easy to forget that you can never be too cautious when it comes to your website and how it’s managed.
When we build websites at MAXX, it’s not just about looking great (although we pride ourselves on beautiful design), the hosting, management and security is of prime concern. Our hosting set up is fully redundant with extensive backups – do you know if this is the case with your own website?
